  • I’m still alive

Just a little worse for wear.

While Daisy and I were doing a mud run last weekend (April 11), I attempted to get around a couple of slow walkers, and looked behind to make sure I wasn’t going to step out in front of any runners, and missed a rock apparently. Next thing I knew I felt AND heard a pop and was laying on my back. Knowing me, I probably said a few choice words that offended everyone within earshot, but what the hell, that shit hurt.

So the mud run organizers did a piss poor job of actually managing the course, so we had to walk a mile or so before we found ANYONE that actually worked for the mud run. We got a ride back to the main race area, and found out that for the entire 3 mile course they had 2 people on bikes that were supposed to be monitoring the course, but when needed, nowhere to be found. We passed two obstacles, and there wasn’t anyone there either. So then we walked back to the car, probably a mile or so, and finally drove back home, and I headed to Urgent Care to get looked at.

Lo and behold, what I hoped was just a sprain turns out to be a little worse than that. I broke a chunk off the end of my fibula, as well as whatever else I did to the soft tissue. So I’ve been in a boot since last Saturday, and haven’t done a thing since then. I’ve been trying to eat well, but standing at the stove to do much still sucks, so I’m eating whatever is quick and convenient. It’s feeling somewhat better, and I’m sleeping a bit better, but Monday I have an appointment with an Orthopedic surgeon to see if I need surgery.

I’m hoping to get back to the gym some time next week. No leg days for sure, but I can keep working upper at least. And running…….that’s right out for a bit. But I will be back! After all, Daisy and I have a Spartan race in October, so I have to be back on my feet, literally and figuratively.

Lifting paused. Still losing a bit. Unable to show up, but will be back.
